Charles Barber and George Morgan’s 1917 McKinley Memorial Gold Dollar was produced to collect money for a monument to the 25th President William McKinley in Niles, Ohio, where he was born. Despite the fact that Morgan and Barber’s relationship is typically seen as having been tense, they collaborated to produce a small number of coins, including this magnificent gold dollar. Just 146 of the 1917 McKinley Gold Dollars that were produced have been graded in Mint State 67 condition, and only 20 have been graded higher. This coin is not only an Absolute and Condition Rare but also one of the finest known, with a tiny mintage of just 5,000 specimens and so few in MS67 or above condition.
