1938 saw the introduction of the Felix Schlag-designed Jefferson Nickel. Thomas Jefferson was only the third president to be portrayed on circulation coinage and was honored on the five-cent piece for almost a century. The Denver Mint produced this particular Jefferson Nickel in 1950, and it has been rated as being in Mint State 66 condition. Much fewer than 1% of all 1950 Jefferson Nickels produced have been rated in Mint State 66 condition, with only 189 examples rated higher. This 1950-D Jefferson Nickel is a Condition Rare because there are so few coins rated higher than MS66 and so few of them.
