From 2022 to 2025, the American Women Quarters series will highlight 5 notable women with designs on the quarter. After 90 years, Laura Gardin Fraser’s Washington design for the 1932 Washington Quarter will be used on the twenty-five coin. The first reverse design in this new series depicts Maya Angelou with her arms raised and a bird flying in silhouette behind her, evoking imagery from her autobiography “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings.”
